Spanish woman pretending to be from the Venmo fraud department. Called alleging that someone by the name of "Ashley Reed" had hacked my Venmo account and was trying to withdraw funds/access my card info; claimed they were "glad they caught it in time and needed to re-secure my account." I played along and waited to see what tricks they'd pull out next, but was met with 30 seconds of silence before I began hearing the woman having a background conversation in Spanish with (what sounded like) another woman. I couldn't make out what was being said as I don't speak Spanish, although I'm sure it was probably just a bunch of ungodly criminal mumbo-jumbo. Regardless, they hung up after about 30 more seconds of unintelligible Spanish dialogue and didn’t call back again. Immediately aterwards, I reset my Venmo password and contacted their ACTUAL fraud department to report this soulless loser. BE WARNED!!!! These people are CON ARTISTS attempting to scam you out of your time, money, and livelihood. Venmo will NEVER call you out of the blue to discuss personal account matters like this. If someone contacts you alleging to work for Venmo, DO NOT give out any information EVER!!!! In the event that you received a call like the one described above, PLEASE be vigilant and block the number, reset your Venmo password, and contact Venmo’s REAL customer service department at 855-812-4430 to report the scammer(s).
